Shower Niches

Shower Niches

Generally niches in a shower are thought of as a place to store the shampoo bottles, soap and all of those items we need in a shower.  One of the big advantages of a niche is that it saves space in a shower – it uses the space in the wall and doesn’t protrude into the shower space.  Contractors will use glass shelves and tile in soap holder because they are significantly less expensive than a niche. Installing a” tile in” soap dish is as easy as installing one piece of tile.  A glass shelf requires drilling a couple of holes in the tile and setting an anchor and can be done after the shower is built.  But a niche requires much more work to take advantage of the free space.  But instead of clients bumping into them with their elbows, everything is right at their fingertips. It’s a custom feature that looks much better than a tile in soap dish. In addition to the regular issues of paint colors, flooring, and window treatments, kitchens and bathrooms have cabinetry, plumbing, work areas, and storage needs that have to be addressed. The design has to be a balance of aesthetics and function. A properly designed space can make working in the kitchen more enjoyable and an inviting bathroom makes getting ready for work a little easier. Since proper design is critical to the success of a kitchen or bathroom project, Momentum Construction utilizes a design/build approach. This means we are responsible for creating the design as well as delivering the finished project.  Momentum Construction is the place to start your kitchen or bathroom remodeling project because it’s Designed for you™ from beginning to end. Ideas for that New Master Bathroom When my clients want to remodel their master bathrooms, they often want to incorporate features that were not there in the original shower.  And many times, the footprint of the shower isn’t sufficient to incorporate all the features they want.  Niches can replace shower caddies and shelves, but what to do about the bench?  With a smaller shower they often are just in the way. But no woman will go without because there is nothing to set their foot on when they shave.  Or so they think.  The essence of the matter is there needs to be a place to put their foot and one of the ways we can get around the bench in a smaller shower and keep the look clean is by using a toe niche.  It’s about 18 inches off the ground and it’s a perfect spot to put a razor and a foot for those inclined to shave their legs. They are around 6 inches tall and designed to blend in with the surrounding tile.  We don’t want to accent it, but help it fade into the background.
