Current Project

A quick look at one of our current completed projects.
[full] The old floor plan and kitchen lay out did not connect the outside view of the back yard with the kitchen area.  As the homeowner walked into the kitchen, the old wet bar and side of the refrigerator dominated the scene.  The cabinetry layout had an island and two peninsulas that had to be walked around anytime the owner wanted to go to the refrigerator from the morning room. [/full] [contentdivider] [full] This is a perspective of the revised kitchen space. The island will be a great place to have family gatherings. Two different counter tops and different cabinet colors will add visual interest to the kitchen and by removing the soffits we will be able to give the homeowner more storage space. The section of load bearing wall that blocked the view has been removed and replaced with a column opening up the space. With the old load bearing walls removed and replaced with a column, light travels through the space better and the entrance is not as dark. We’re ready to start installing the cabinets and the finishes. [/full] [contentdivider] [full] Starting to place the cabinets. This is where the planning and design come together. Cabinetry makes kitchens and bathrooms different from any other rooms in the house because they are measured to fit a space exactly and the installation is where inattention to the design details can create havoc.[/full] [contentdivider] [full] With the cabinets in place and trimmed out and the counter tops installed. The next stage is to paint and install the appliances. The large over sized light on the ceiling in the foreground is actually a skylight that brings daylight to the end of the kitchen that is furthest from the windows.[/full] [contentdivider] [full] This is the finished project. To facilitate entertaining, the large island has seating for up to six people and allows for two or three people to work comfortably at the same time. The back splash is slate tile with glass accent pieces. We choose to use black cabinets for the island so add visual interest and complement the glaze on the main cabinets. To accomplish this, we removed the grills from the windows and installed a large sliding glass door that leads to the sunroom. This invites one to look through the windows and view the outdoor living space as part of the home. (Photo by Gregg Willett Photography) [/full]
