One kitchen trend that isn’t often thought about is designing kitchens around the whole family. The emphasis is to create kitchens where not only Mom and Dad can work, but also the children. In one design there was a second children’s kitchen complete with appliances – and the owners children even decorated the room.
In more mainstream designs special works zones were created for children with lowered counter tops and storage aimed at placing things within reach. The lowered counter top (generally around 29 inches off the ground – about the same as a kitchen table) makes it easier for them to work and see what’s on the counter and has a second benefit – it’s a great height for rolling out dough for adults.
With the whole family involved in meal preparation, the children can learn how to cook healthy meals and lessons that will help them through out their lives – enjoying the time together along the way. Cooking together is family time together.
